LUMA Arles

Locals still can't believe they have such a museum in their town, and yet... Thanks to Maja Hoffmann, a visionary patron and founder of LUMA Arles, the tower opened in 2021! LUMA is a forward-looking cultural campus that merges art, architecture, and sustainability. The centerpiece of the site is the striking, twisting tower designed by renowned architect Frank Gehry, inspired by the shimmering light and textures of the region.

A formidable hub of art and innovation

The foundation spans over 27 acres, including the Parc des Ateliers, a former industrial site transformed into a space for contemporary art and creativity. Visitors can explore exhibitions, artist residencies, workshops, and a rich program of events that highlight cutting-edge art, photography during the Rencontres, design, and ecological innovation.

Some of the artists exhibited: Judy Chicago, Christodoulos Panayiotou, Rirkrit Tiravanija, Lee Friedlander, William Kentridge, Hans Ulrich Obrist (Archives), Philippe Parreno, Rirkrit Tiravanija, Etel Adnan, Carsten Höller, Helen Marten, Liam Gillick, Ólafur Elíasson, Konstantin Grcic...
LUMA also features beautifully landscaped gardens - Parc des Ateliers - by Belgian landscape architect Bas Smets, blending Mediterranean plants with thoughtful design. The venue emphasizes sustainability, showcasing projects that address pressing global challenges.
The park is open to all. Several restaurants welcome you almost all year round, including Drum Café (bistronomic cuisine with local influences) and Le Réfectoire: in a former workers' canteen, authentic brasserie cuisine.
